I am in one of those moods where I feel the need to be a little silly. I am also in one of those moods where I am thinking about food. You know what? I just realized that I'm like that most of the time. I guess I just decided to join the two together and write a blog about the moral lessons we could learn from canned potato chips.
As you can see in the picture, I am a huge fan of the canned chip. Why bother picking 'em out of the can when you can just tilt your head back? If I ever met the man who invented canned chips, I would give him a very enthusiastic handshake and probably a hug. He must have been a genius to have come up with a food delivery method that is all pros and no cons. Some of the many pros are as follows:
1: What you see is what you get. A bag is filled with air. A can is filled with chips. Need I say more? I don't think so!
2. Space efficiency. While the chips in the bag lack any sort of organization in their placement, leading to a lot of unused space, (see point 1) the can makes full use of the size of its package. The result is that you get more chips in a smaller space. This takes less space on grocery store shelves.
3. Uniformity. They are all made in the same shape. This gives you the confidence that when you reach into the can, you will get what is shown on the label.
4. Structural integrity. When you drop a bag, the chips fly around and are likely to break. If you drop a can, a couple might crack but the strength of the chips on either side will keep the broken chip how it should be.
5. They taste better.
I think you can see how we could learn a lesson from all this.
'What you see is what you get' should be how we are seen as Christians. Rather than inflate ourselves to make us look better than we are, we should present ourselves exactly as we are: sinners who are only saved by grace. When it comes to space efficiency and uniformity, it is very similar to how the church should conduct itself as a body. Rather than follow our own moral compass, we should all strive to become the image of Jesus Christ. With this common goal, we are better able to support eachother. When the church takes a hit, the ones who don't have the strength to stand alone are supported by their brothers and sisters.
Also, we taste better. If a random group of people get captured by cannibals, the Christians will get eaten first. 'Tis fact!
Well, maybe not that last bit, but I hope that you have learned a valuable lesson from canned chips.
