*The crowd is on the edge of their seats. After champion wordsmith Luke Koster's decisive victory over 50 States, a new challenger by the name of Lemon Pledge waits in the ring. Oh! Here's the theme music! Luke Koster strides into the building to the dulcet tones of Larry the Cucumber singing "I Love My Lips". He surely does know how to make an entrance, doesn't he? The crowd is on its feet, chanting his name as he approaches the ring. He's stepping through the ropes now... oh no! He just tripped over the rope. This is NOT good. The crowd has gone silent. They're not quite sure how to react. I don't think I've ever seen this happen before. Oh! The crowd is cheering once again as Luke jumps back to his feet. Let this match begin!*
I must say that it was a challenge finding a moral lesson that had something to do with Lemon Pledge. I finally did come up with something this afternoon at work. Let's see how this works.
Lemon Pledge: a pleasant smelling non-toxic furniture cleaner. It's quite useful. There are a lot of cleaners out there that are dangerous to use and must be handled with much caution but not this one. There is a small risk though. When exposed to heat, there is a chance that it will explode.
There are many things we do in our day to day lives that are useful and not at all bad for us. They don't damage our health, they don't take too much time and they don't get in the way of our walk with God. These activities are not sinful and improve our lives in some ways.
The problem comes when we rely on these things to get us through life. They might carry us for a while but when we pass through the fires of trial and tribulation, these things will blow up in our faces. The only thing we can rely on to get us through life is God. Anything else, no matter how healthy, beneficial or 'lemony fresh' it is will let us down when things get hot.
I realize that this analogy may be a bit of a stretch, but I think it works well enough.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and God bless ya!
