Vanessa took me up on my subject challenge that I posted on the home page and wanted to know if I could come up with a moral lesson based on the 50 states. I am glad to say that I have.

I live in Canada so I thought it would be appropriate to list the 50 deadly sins and tag each state with one of them. New York is gluttony, Texas is wrath, California is lust and Wisconsin is cheese. That's right. Cheese, as of now, is a sin. Montana's sin is being boring, Florida has too many old people and Kentucky sells too much fast food. New Hampshire just has a silly name. I suppose that will have to do for a deadly sin...

If anyone reading this post lives in one of those states, don't worry. I wasn't being serious. The moral lesson I will take from the 50 states will go all the way back to the civil war.

A human being has many desires. Some are good, some are bad. All in all though, we are slaves to sin. If I know my history correctly, which I probably don't, because I didn't learn American history in school, Abe Lincoln comes in during a time of thriving slave-trade and says "yo! Slavery is bad!" This is much like when Jesus comes into our life and starts to make changes in our lives, freeing us from sin.

The southern states didn't much like this sort of idea so they decide to fight back. The states are divided against themselves and a bloody war ensues. Very much like us. We may have a new Lord in our life, but the desires of the flesh don't want to give up. They bombard us with every evil desire imaginable and we must do battle against ourselves. Through the strength of Christ, we will prevail, yet that flesh nature is always there, waiting for its next opportunity to strike. (The south will rise again!)

Well, there you have it. The 50 states can be used to illustrate the battle within ourselves against sin.

Have a great day y'all, and God bless ya!
